A RIVER RUNS OVER IT

A bicyclist traverses some forest on Wednesday to get across a closed portion of the Monument View section of the Riverfront Trail under the Redlands Parkway bridge that is flooded by the Colorado River as it reaches its peak height from runoff. The closure will have a significant impact on bicycle traffic between Grand Junction and Fruita as there are no established access points to the trail between Interstate 70 and Redlands Parkway. The closure will require cyclists and other users to detour at Walter Walker State Wildlife Area using Railhead Circle, and near 24 Road in the other direction, then travel a stretch along River Road. Motorists are asked to please share the road and keep an eye out for cyclists as use of the bike lanes on River Road will likely increase during the closure, a City of Grand Junction release said.
