The city of Grand Junction is soliciting feedback on a project improving bicycle and pedestrian options along 7th Street, according to a press release.

According to the city, 7th Street has been identified as a key corridor for bike and pedestrian travel in the future.

“The 2023 Grand Junction Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan identified 7th Street as a key northsouth corridor through the urban core,” Engineering and Transportation Director Trent Prall said. “We look forward to the community’s input into how the corridor can be transformed to safely serve all modes of travel.”

The project will focus on the entire 7th Street corridor from Riverside Parkway to Horizon Drive, which includes St Mary’s Medical Center, a number of other healthcare offices, the Eureka Science Center, the Art Center, significant dining and retail options, downtown Grand Junction, Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction High School and The Daily Sentinel.

“A steering committee was selected from members of the community who have a specific interest in travel along 7th Street and they will help to guide the study goals in relation to the Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan as well as recommend facilities, identify high-risk locations, review information received during the public outreach, and other tasks,” the release stated. “The steering committee will work with the project team including the consultant, KLJ Engineering, and be supported by city staff with technical expertise in transportation, planning, emergency response, and urban forestry.”

According to the project website, the steering committee includes representatives from the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce, Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado Mesa University, Downtown Development Authority, Grand Junction Historic Preservation Board, Urban Trails Committee, Grand Valley Regional Transportation Planning Office and Grand Valley Transit, One Riverfront Commission, Mesa County Valley School District 51, St. Mary’s Medical Center, The Art Center of Western Colorado, city of Grand Junction, business and property owners along the corridor, community members, and KLJ Engineering.

According to the release, residents can give feedback on what they’d like to see on 7th Street by taking a survey at https:// engagegj.org/7th-street or by visiting a pop-up booth at an event such as Market on Main. The survey deadline is July 31.
