In Focus: Flag Day event

Joe Zeni and Slavoljub Guduric are shown during a Flag Day ceremony at Orchard Mesa Cemetery to honor Harold Aupperle, who served in the American Red Cross during World War I and died on June 14, 1919, in Serbia. Guduric, whose father’s family was helped by Aupperle, traveled from Serbia to Grand Junction to honor Aupperle at the event, where he played his furla. Zeni is the author of a book about Aupperle titled “Promise: A Story of Harold Aupperle.” These photos were submitted by Gayle Madden.
