The offerings of Cedaredge

Itook a pleasant road trip to Cedaredge last weekend. There were several businesses I wanted to check out and it was a beautiful day to explore this quaint western Colorado town.

My first stop was the cute bakery called Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop & Café. Located at 105 W. Main St., it was a warm and relaxing shop with comfy chairs, boardgames, and books in addition to breakfast and lunch food options. They make all their baked goods from scratch and I enjoyed an almond croissant and chat with the delightful employee there that day.

I think it looks like such a pleasant place to hang out with friends or cozy up with a book. Every town needs a bakery like this!

After that, I walked directly across the street to the new “LaLa’s Local” restaurant.

Their address is 130 W. Main St. and they serve breakfast and lunch daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. In the near future, they will also be adding dinners on Fridays and Saturdays.

They were hopping when I was there at lunch time and it was wonderful to see all ages dining there.

It felt like a warm and inviting restaurant that was a mix between a diner and a café. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The service was at a good pace and the food was yummy. You could just sit back and be taken care of and that is always such a nice feeling!

We had the breaded zucchini sticks and artichoke hummus for appetizers. The chicken fireballs wrapped in bacon were a hit with my husband (you can get it as a sandwich, too) and we really liked the lovely beet salad. It was so pretty with watermelon radishes, beets, jicama, walnuts, lettuce greens and more! My husband loved the constant refilling of his coffee mug and I thought a glass of white wine at $6 was a great deal.

When we finished our lunch, we walked across the street the other direction to Snow Capped Cider’s Taproom and Wine Bar at 105 N. Grand Mesa Dr. There is also an adjoining Snow Boy coffee shop with various options. (By the way, all of this was so convenient! We parked in front of Lala’s restaurant in a free parking spot and everything else was just a few yards away the whole time we were visiting.)

Snow Capped Cider has been making some delicious, award-winning ciders over the years.

The company is led by head cidermaker and owner Kari Williams.

This year it was named as “Midsize Producer of the Year” for the third year in a row and earned 14 “Best in Show” awards at the 2026 Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition. The competition draws more than 1,400 applicants from around the world and is judged blind by a panel of experts.

Snow Capped Cider’s orchards sit at elevations between 6,130 and 7,000 feet, which is one of the highest cider orchards in the world.

Their taproom was visually stunning and really combined beauty with function. I loved the high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass, and all-around design. The staff was so kind and absolutely added to the polished atmosphere. This would be an ideal place to relax after a beautiful hike or just a long day. I hadn’t realized they had food options or I would have left more room to try their tasty-looking menu. The people around us had lots of great-looking food in front of them with items such as an elote dip served with a garlic and chili naan, olives stuffed with tangerines and served with goat cheese and crackers, sweet potato waffle fries, charcuterie boards, ube cheesecake, and more.

I was super curious to try the lavender/pear/ honeysuckle white wine.

Frankly, I was concerned it would be cloyingly sweet, but it wasn’t at all. It was an interesting, unique and fun option.

I also enjoyed sampling a flight of their ciders.

These sparkling ciders were a delight and they have a large variation from which to choose.

After leaving Cedaredge, I was curious to swing by the new Honey Rock Landing Inn featuring orchards and “cave suites” lodging. I’ve been hearing a lot about it and wanted to take a peek.

It’s on the way back to Grand Junction and easy to just bop over there to 2444 Dominguez Canyon Road. The last bit of road is gravel and you really feel like you are in the middle of nowhere even though you are just 32 miles from Cedaredge, 16 miles from Delta, and about 26 miles from Grand Junction.

The orchard was green and striking against the dry landscape. It was fascinating to see how Honey Rock Landing has created several luxury hotel room suites carved into the rocks, creating a romantic cave-like lodging space overlooking the natural beauty of the land. They’ve been hosting special paired dinners and have more coming up in the future.

(Check out their website for up-to-date details.)

Weddings and other events are happening there too and they have a new swimming pool being carefully built and nestled in amongst the rocks.

It was an enjoyable road trip and a lovely day all around. I love seeing all the creativity going on in these parts of western Colorado!
